Richard Diebenkorn

I chose this picture by Richard Diebenkorn because I love the colors that he used. I feel as though the three primary colors stand out the most and the rest of the picture is accented with other colors. I love the strong royal blue and bright red. I find this painting to be mysterious which is one of the reasons that I like it so much.

Star Candles

For my star pieces I decided to sketch Christmas candles. I placed red berries and pinecones around the candles to simulate a Christmas feel. I figured that I will be working on this painting closer to Christmas so why not make it fit the season.

Intro

Hi, my name is Emily and I am a perfectionist.
I have to have everything perfect especially when it comes to visual art. This becomes a problem when I take to long to finish something or I don't like how something is turning out. I have this blog so that I can show my progression through a couple of projects which I believe will help me grow as an artist. Having others look and comment on my work will allow me to accept criticism and use it to inspire greater pieces of art.

Cupcake Prints

These three prints are my favorite because of the color variation. I especially like the print on the white paper and I'm glad I used pink as a base color in all of my prints. I had issues with printing with either too little or too much ink and I found it hard to pick out prints that I liked that had the proper amount of ink.

Repetition: Cupcakes

For my repetition piece that is supposed to resemble Wayne Thiebaud I have chosen to sketch cupcakes. The way the light hits the icing gives it clear light and dark areas making it easy to create a print. Also the details in the cupcake wrapper will give me a challenge when I begin to make my linoleum print. I like the sketch on the right the best but for my print I am going to use the sketch on the left because I feel that the light and dark areas are easier to distinguish. This difference in dark and light will help when I start carving my linoleum print. Thiebaud's repetition is reflected in my own sketches but I do not have the cupcake repeated as many times as Thierbaud would normally have an object repeated.

Starfruit

My first piece in this series of paintings, sketches, etc is a hand holding a starfruit. I cut out the center of the star fruit so that there was a shadow of the outline. Last year we worked on drawing hands and so I wanted to continue working on hands while including my theme of stars.
